Annual Price Cuts for Xbox 360? Microsoft executive hints at strategy. by Wade Steel September 20, 2005 - With about two months to go before the launch of its highly-anticipated next-generation gaming console, Microsoft executives are already considering the company's long-term competitive strategy. Part of this strategy may have been disclosed by a Microsoft executive who suggested that the console will undergo annual price cuts, according to a report at GamesIndustry.biz.
Speaking to the Reuters press agency just before the start of the Tokyo Games Show, Todd Holmdahl, corporate vice president of the Xbox product group, stated that the company will "wind up cost-reducing the product every year."
According to industry analysts, the manufacturing cost of the Xbox 360 is estimated to be about $100 per unit less than that of its main competitor, the Sony Playstation 3, thus giving the Redmond, Washington based company more leeway in pricing decisions.
While Microsoft has not officially commented on Holmdahl's statement, you can be assured that once we learn more about this development that we will pass it on to you.
