Righty, I need a laptop for college and for home use, I dont really want it to play games on, just to surf the net, use photoshop and MS Word. I havent got a clue on what one to get. I dont want one thats more than about £800 (dunno how much that is in dollars).
Usually when I buy things computer releated I head out and buy something without doing reasearch or getting tips, but this is different, its £800 of my hard earnt money, and if I spend it on some crappy laptop I'm gonna be kicking myself in the ass shouting "Why didn't I buy that other one!".
So anyone got any tips on a good one?

I'll help you kick your ass lol.
I wish I could help ya buddy, but I wouldn't know about laptop recommendations.
I guess shop around and ask the sale associates for what you are looking for. Go to different stores and get many opinions.

going around and asking the salers, would be your best bet.

The people who work at CompUSA, Bestbuy, Circuit City are idiots and cant be trusted (in most occurances). I was there yesterday and asked the guy in the computer department if they had World of Warcraft and hes like "Um, did you look in the game section", I said yes I did and he said "Then we dont have it". He looked at me like I was asking for a pet monkey when I asked for the game as he never heard of it, despite the fact its the largest RPG game out there...
Now, if you want a good laptop for $800 bucks, I havent seen many good choices that way, most laptops are in the 1000-2000 and up range...However if you just need it for Word documents, online and photoshop that wont need a super laptop. What I would do, is at many stores they have laptops already turned on for use, logg on a few of them and test run it just to see if its to your likeing. As the specs of a PC, arent really important for what you need.
What you will need to do, is figure out how to get on the internet with it away from home. Wireless routers usually travel only a few hundred feet, so your going to need to look online about that.

I know, I usually refrain from asking them. And actually, £800 is about $1,400. In that case, there's some great laptops for that price. Look around and narrow it down to about three or four. Compare them on price and specifications. From there, you should be able to pick out the right laptop.
