Halo in DOA4 Revealed
Tecmo unveils the big Bungie secret.
by David Adams
October 26, 2005 - Earlier this month, Bungie announced that a character from the Halo universe would appear in Tecmo's Dead or Alive 4. While this was plenty to stir the appetites of fans, neither company would cop to just who would be appearing. Sweaty-night fantasies of fighting as Master Chief or Cortana ensued.
Today, however, Tecmo finally pulled back the veil: Spartan-458, a "one-of-a-kind character" from Halo, will appear as an unlockable character in Dead or Alive 4. That may not be Master Chief, but you can bet he'll have some sharp, Spartan-class armor and moves. But there's more: Bungie and Team Ninja are also adding a Halo-themed environment as an unlockable stage.
"The opportunity to work with Team Ninja and combine our powers to strike yet another blow in our quest for world domination, was too alluring to pass up," said Bungie Studio Manager Pete Parsons. "Plus, we just think the idea of putting a Spartan into a DOA game totally kicks ass."
Team Ninja head assassin and game-design badass Tomonobu Itagaki commented on how the two game worlds came together -- an idea he and Parsons hit upon two years ago at E3.
"Our first priority was, above all else, is to remain truthful to Bungie's original design and background material. Then, ideally we were able to add a bit of Team Ninja's distinctive flavor on top," Itagaki said. "Think about it for a second: do you honestly believe there is anything out there that can't be accomplished with the technologies of Bungie and Team Ninja put together?"
We'll have much more on Dead or Alive 4, Halo bonuses and all, in the weeks before its arrival. Stay tuned.
