MGS3 Subsistence Bonus Items
Konami plans multi-disk set for Japan. First details.

September 20, 2005 - Metal Gear in all its various forms took center stage at this year's Tokyo Game Show, and Konami seems intent on continuing the flames with first details on the Japanese packaging for Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. The updated version of MGS3 will be available in both a normal package and a limited first run edition, both costing 5930 yen. The limited edition version offers those who pick up their copies early some big bonuses.
Both versions will include two main disks. Disk 1, called Subsistence, will include the full MGS3 Snake Eater along with a 3rd person camera mode, a demo theater mode and a linkup mode for Metal Gear Acid that may end up taking advantage of that game's new 3D goggles. The contents of the demo theater mode are currently a mystery. Also worth noting is that the Japanese version of Subsistence will include the Japanese language version of Snake Eater, unlike the Japanese version of MGS2 Substance which featured English dialogue and Japanese subtitles (and ended up in bargain bins just a few weeks following release).
The second disk, called Persistence, is filled with even more fun. This disk includes the game's Online mode featuring sneaking missions, team death match, death match, capture missions and rescue missions. Also included is a duel mode, where you take on all the bosses, a mini game featuring the Ape Escape monkeys, a secret theater mode (again, the contents are unknown at this point) and the MSX2 versions of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 Solid Snake. As previously revealed, Hinomoto from Rumble Rose will be playable in the Online mode.
Now for the big bonus set to be included in the first run edition. This special version will include a third disk called Existence. For this disk, Hideo Kojima and crew have created a three and a half hour cut of Metal Gear Solid 3's cinema scenes featuring remastered sound. The story on this disk is split into eight chapters and is meant for those who want to know the Snake Eater storyline but were unable to finish the game.
Konami also plans on releasing MGS3 Subsistence bundled with a head set. This package will cost 7,980 yen and will be released along side the standard package on 12/22.
This information concerns Japan only. Konami America's plans for Subsistence are currently unknown.
