I've recently re-installed Adobe Photoshop CS2 and have forgotten a lot of things, but what I really need help with is some tips on how to create a good BG.
I can do ok with text and I've got blending down...it's just I need to know what steps I should take to make a decent background...I've used good brushes...blurred things, and just totally messed around for hours, and have come up with stupid, pitiful blobs of yuck.
Please don't send me a link either...I know of a lot of tutorial sites and of course I can't make a lick of sense with most of them...so I need personal tips from some good graphics makers like Makaveli, Gabriel, Grandy, Buzzsaw, etc.
Can I get some help?

black brushing on white bg. or white brushing on a black bg.
color balance to apply color to the entire sig.
easy as that.
