sticky if good nuf
this is my first tut so bare with me
In this tut i will teach blending how i do, multi color, render placement, good boarder, very basic layer masking (for the blending), and the rule of thirds
im horrible at text, so my tut will not have any, use someone elses tut
Step One : i don't care what anyone says, pick your render first, if you don't have your render, how are you going to know how you want to make your sig?
Step Two : Create document. For this tut, and every sig i make i will be doing 400x150... you may want to choose size on how many pics you want in it, the size of the pic you have, or just go random insane.
Step Three : Default your colors by pressing D, and make your background white.
Step Four : Choose your Brushes, i will be using various ones by Alias
Step Five : Start Brushing (white on black background or reverse) some people start off with clouds, i won't be, but you sure can if you wish to. My advice is don't use the same brush more than three or four times, just stamp and switch asap... also always use a new layer for every time you brush with a different color
should have something similar to this
Step Six : now make a new layer, and switch your colors to black and set your brushes opacity to around 30, don't brush too much on this layer, just enough to get some of the white to gray, keep some white in there though
i got this
Step Seven : Make a New Color balance layer (Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color balance) and make your color, i'll be using a dirty orange
i got this
Now that that is done, there are 2 ways for multi color (this is just step one theres still another color balance layer to make) either click your color balance layer and do filter > render > clouds, or use your gradiant tool. Always keep your foreground and Background colors black and white
note that for mine i used the gradiant tool and went from left to right, this is not nessecary it can be done in angles, or up and down. Result :
Now you have to make a New Color balance layer, and use the other color that you want to use, and make the gradiant come from the other direction Result :
Step Eight : Once you got all the colors you want, Grab your render, and drag it over to the sig. Now for grunge i've been told you don't want the high saturation, and after trying puting the sat. down i agree.. so on your render layer press ctrl + u for colorize options. Set your saturation anywhere from -40 to -75
Once you have done that, place your sig somewhere... Here is where the Rule of Thirds come in. Mentally imagine lines through your sig vertically and horizontally... Make key events of your sig happen at the INTERSECTION of these lines...
Result :
before lowering saturation
after lowering it
ok render is placed so now to blend
Step Nine : MAKE SURE YOUR RENDER LAYER IS BELOW THE COLOR BALANCE LAYERS this is key to blending, if it is not below them then it will not match the colors of the background. Next add a layer mask to the render layer.. you will notice a square come up next to the picture in the layer window. Click on the box that came up. Grab any random grunge brush, set the opacity to about 20%, set foreground color to black, and lightly brush around the outside edges of your render until it looks like the edges are grunged out
Result :
After moving render under color balance layers
after grunge blending
FINAL STEP : adding a boarder. Make a new layer and select that layer. Press Ctrl + a and then go to edit > stroke > 3 pixel, inside, set to black, then repeat the stoke but set it to 2 pixel white, then again at 1 pixel black. Change the blending mode of the boarder layer to Darken, and you have a kick ass boarder
Result :
MY FINAL RESULT :
